Job Description:

As part of the GTRI Mission Practice, this candidate will act as a part of the overall GTRI engineering team and be deployed to customer locations working on specific DoD programs. In this role, the candidate will be supporting DoD mission domains throughout the detailed design, development, integration, test, deployment and/or sustainment of mission critical DoD systems. Candidate may develop deliverable documents and perform document reviews. All projects must be completed with relentless commitment to our customer’s mission and GTRI quality standards.


The Mission Practice Engineer is responsible for applying GTRI's and our Customer’s technical processes to design, deploy, diagnose, and document customer mission systems.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Day to day on-site interaction with our customers and become key member of customer program teams
  • Produce design documentation and as-built documentation with little or no assistance
  • Deliver domain-specific, on-site engineering services to our customers with little or no supervision on medium to high complexity projects
  • Deliver & Document mission practice engagements according to GTRI guidelines
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of projects' status to customers, supervisor, and project managers
  • Operate under supervision on large projects; operate independently on small projects
  • Achieve Mission Practice billing time goals while working toward continued training advancement
  • Supervisory and other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:


  • 7+ years’ experience performing engineering support to DoD programs
  • Domain-specific certifications meeting program expectations
  • Ability to troubleshoot and escalate complex engineering problems with little or no assistance.
  • Advanced/refined documentation, communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Great Customer Service skills
  • Ability to work as a member of customer team and support mission-critical systems
  • Unwavering commitment to integrity and excellence and our customer’s missions
  • Mission-first mentality (may require non-standard hour support)
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to self-teach in a fast paced environment



  • Experience working with targeted DoD program
  • 3+ years of experience working with one of GTRI’s Strategic Partners
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical major

Physical/Mental Demands & Environment:

  • Must be able to carry 40 lbs. of equipment
  • Must be able to stand/work for four or more consecutive hours while carrying laptop during customer projects
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time

Education (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelors degree technical field or 3 years equivalent experience


Additional Requirement:

  • NACI background completed within the past 5 years.
  • Single Scope Background Investigation completed within the past 5 years.
