This position will focus efforts on supporting GTRI’s Enterprise presence with the Denver Metro area. The SE will be responsible for the architecture and design of GTRI solutions and systems for customers LAN, WAN and data center networking environments. The position includes the responsibility for identifying customer needs, identifying new sales opportunities, architecting solutions to meet those needs and developing services proposals and bills of materials in order to capture those opportunities while reducing GTRI and customer risk. The Sales Engineer works within our Sales teams and engages with experts across all GTRI technology competencies: applications, virtualization, data management, unified communications, wireless and network & infrastructure competencies.

Job Description:

The Commercial Sales Engineer uses their technical knowledge along with sales acumen to generate new business and ensure growth of existing accounts. This position will focus efforts on supporting GTRI’s growth in the Commercial, Enterprise, Healthcare, and Financial markets. The Commercial Sales Engineer will be responsible for coordinating with sales to ensure an accurate sales funnel, growing sales pipeline, and driving professional services opportunity.


  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Leads tactical opportunities and creates strategic opportunities
  • Develops strong relationships with all levels of customer organization
  • Strong knowledge of Sales Engineering consulting (billing, basic project management, problem reporting, testing, and solution engineering aligned with GTRI's business solutions)
  • Creates specific RFP/Statement of Work response activities
  • Proficiently uses various methods of Strategic Delivery Framework (SDF) methodologies
  • Proficiently uses various methods of conflict management resolution - Mentors other engineers on best practice methods for up-to-date research on vendor products
  • Reports on the technical trends of the industry.
  • Understands and articulates features, functions, benefits of GTRI Solutions and applications.
  • Articulates the positioning of GTRI solution applications, technologies and products in reference to the industry.
  • Articulates where GTRI Solutions are stronger, at parity or show weaknesses against the competition



  • 4+ years’ experience working in the technology sales, distribution, or implementation industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in architecture design of GTRI Strategic partners (reference link below)
  • Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNP or higher-level certification in relevant technology (e.g. Cisco, VMware, Citrix, Splunk, AWS, NetApp, Pure, etc.)
  • Reviews designs, configurations, and order entry documentation with the sales team
  • Researches and diagrams the customer's infrastructure.
  • Analyzes customer's technical near to mid-term networking needs, goals, and objectives with no assistance.
  • Effectively identifies and matches application opportunities according to customer design requirements.
  • Identifies GTRI solutions that meet customer goals and objectives.
  • Formulates the positioning of GTRI Solutions to strengthening the customer's competitive position in their own industry.
  • Produces the customer solution design with no assistance.
  • Leads development in technical response generation of bills of materials and statements of work for products and services to customer.


  • Proficient in all relevant product licensing models and enterprise licensing agreements
  • 5+ years of sales engineering and/or consulting experience

Physical/Mental Demands & Environment:

  • Must be able to spend majority of the day viewing at close distances of 20” or less.
  • Must be able to sit at least 2/3 of the time
  • Must be available to work standard work hours, 8-5, as well after-hours phone contact for escalation support to field teams
  • Must be able to carry 20 lbs. of equipment
  • Must be able to stand/work for four or more consecutive hours while carrying laptop during customer meetings
  • Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time

Education (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical major, or equivalent experience.
